You turned everything around for Buddy

When 12-year-old Buddy arrived, his hair was severely matted, and he’d been continuously bred in his previous home to produce kittens for sale. With your support, this sweet boy was given a chance to shine and find a loving family.

Nowhere to turn

Twelve-year-old ragdoll cat Buddy has been through a lot in his lifetime.

He was continuously bred in his previous home to produce kittens for sale. He wasn’t being properly cared for, so our inspectors stepped in and took him to RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre.

When Buddy arrived, he was in bad shape and needed a full shave due to severely matted hair. Despite his tough past, the locals in his previous area absolutely adored him. They loved his confident personality, and how he strutted his stuff and got attention on his own terms.

After years of roaming independently, it took Buddy some time to adjust to cattery life. But with some love, patience and care, we were able to help him settle in.

Buddy is a big softie. I’ll really miss him!

Buddy enjoys getting his long hair groomed, but he’s not a fan of having his claws trimmed!

With your help, we could be there for Buddy

We noticed Buddy was getting overexcited when we visited his cat pod to do his routine checks and play with him. Cats have very subtle body language, and our staff and volunteers became experts at reading Buddy’s signals.

When cats get overexcited or overstimulated by play, they can start nipping or scratching. This is just their natural hunting behaviour, but we don’t want anyone to get hurt.

Whenever we saw Buddy getting too excited, we calmly walked away from his pod and gave him space and time to settle down. This helps him stay happy and healthy. We also shared this information with his potential new owners so they can recognise the signs of overstimulation and keep him safe.

We also decided to move Buddy into a larger cat pod where he had a bit more space to explore. And to keep his mind active, we started feeding him small amounts throughout the day and gave him activity feeders.

It was amazing to see how these seemingly small changes made such a big difference. Buddy became such an affectionate cat, loving fuss from his human carers.

One of our animal care assistants, Emily Jefferson, says, “He would stretch his front paws up, knead on my chest and demand all the attention he could get! Then he would go off and do his own thing.”

Thanks to your kind Sponsorship, Buddy has found his forever home. He’s now living a life of happiness with his new owner, Naomi, who gives him the space and love he needs.

“Buddy is settling in well,” Naomi says. “He talks a lot – mainly asking for more food, I think! He’s pretty relaxed and loves sitting with us in the evening, playing and grooming himself. He’s very sociable, and we love him.”

With your generous support, Buddy’s now enjoying a life where he has unlimited access to a warm and cosy lap. Thank you for giving him the fresh start he deserves.
