How to publicise your event

  1. Word of mouth - Ask friends and family to sponsor you and get them to spread the word. You will be surprised at peoples’ generosity - especially if you have a good story, are doing a hard challenge or have a unique fundraising idea!

  2. Promote your event through work – Tell your colleagues in staff newsletters, emails and on notice boards. It’s best to target people just after their pay day or on Fridays.

  3. Fundraising materials - Request your free fundraising pack.

  4. Local media - Contact newspapers, radio and television stations. Download a media form to tell your story.

Telling people about your event on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter can help you get more sponsorship.

  • Set up a group or create an event on Facebook and invite all your friends. If you have a JustGiving page, link between the two websites.

  • Post Facebook statuses/Tweet about your fundraising efforts. Keep people updated with your progress, including training goals and what you’re doing to raise as much money as possible.

  • Put up photos/videos of you preparing for your event. Having a visual aspect to the page will encourage people to donate. You could find some pictures of the animals their money will be helping!

More ideas...

  • If you have a video camera or webcam handy then why not make a short film and upload it to YouTube to persuade people to sponsor you?

  • You could keep a photo diary on Flickr to keep people up-to-date with your fundraising progress, for example, include pictures of yourself training and any mini events you have held such as cake sales and raffles.
