How Peanut came in from the cold

Peanut was abandoned by a roadside to die alone. She was so skinny and scared, we didn't think she'd make it. But with expert care and endless love, this brave dog recovered and learned to trust again. Today, she's happy in a home of her own.

The kind person who found Peanut rushed her to a vet, who alerted us to her life-threatening condition. We took her to RSPCA Block Fen Animal Centre for urgent treatment, where staff were shocked at her state. We knew we had a critical case on our hands.

Before

Peanut weighed just 13kg and was covered in painful pressure sores. We checked if there was a medical reason for her weight, but there wasn’t – she’d just been starved.

After

It took two months of treatment and patient, loving care for Peanut to put on weight and heal. But then she was ready for rehoming and quickly found her forever family (and a favourite snowman toy).

Recovery isn't just physical...

Helping Peanut feel safe and happy around people took time. She’d try to make herself as small as possible to hide from anyone new. It was like she was too scared to trust again. We took small steps with Peanut, helping her slowly build confidence with things she likes – food and walks. Progress took time, but was amazing to see.
