Seal tangled in fishing line rescued from Felixstowe beach

Our East Winch wildlife centre is looking after a seal found on Felixstowe beach entangled in fishing line and with a big wound on the back of its head.
 

A member of the public cut the netting off the juvenile grey seal after it was found on the beach at Langard Point on Wednesday 13 March.

RSPCA animal collection officer Kate Cornforth who stretchered the injured seal off the beach and took it to East Winch said:

Whilst we are grateful to this person for trying to help the seal, cutting netting off can cause further injury to a seal and should only be done by experienced professionals.

However this seal should make a good recovery at our wildlife centre.

Kate added:

Seals are powerful wild mammals and their bite could cause serious injury to anyone who approaches them too closely so we would appeal to the public not to approach any seals they believe to be in trouble but to contact the RSPCA.

The seal is now receiving treatment for its wounds and will hopefully be successfully rehabilitated and put back into the wild.
