We rescue Rudolph from a festive tangle

The RSPCA came to the rescue of a deer nicknamed Rudolph over Christmas after he found himself in a festive tangle.

Chief Inspector Nicky Thorne and animal collection officer Kate Cornforth were called to the grounds of Orwell Park School, in Nacton, near Ipswich, on Friday 28 December after we were alerted to the stricken deer.

A member of the public called the RSPCA after they found the adult male deer tangled in rope and caught on a fence post.

Nicky said:

It was a very feisty male and when we approached he put up such a fight that he ripped the fence post out of the ground.

 

Adding:

"We managed to catch him though and then spent 25 minutes carefully cutting through all of the rope. It appeared he had got entangled in the roped off area of a cricket pitch and then run into the fence.

"He had about 20 metres of rope, two metal stakes and a wooden fence post dragging behind him."

Nicky said she and Kate were able to catch the deer, that the pair nicknamed Rudolph, and were able to release him back to the wild as soon as they had removed all of the tangled rope from his antlers.
