Could you give a home to a Rabbit Romeo?
Launch of ‘Rabbit Romeo’ rehoming poll
26.08.11
An RSPCA branch with a bundle of bunnies in need of rehoming is launching a ‘Rabbit Romeo’ poll to try and help find new owners for the lovable crew.
Our Manchester and Salford Branch currently has 23 rabbits waiting to be rehomed, many of which had very unhappy lives before they came to the branch. Several of these rabbits were taken in as babies last year so have grown up in our care having never known a real home.
‘Rabbit Romeos’ helping to raise awareness
Branch manager Susie Hughes is appealing for people who can offer a permanent home to some of the rabbits in their care.
The branch is setting up a tongue-in-cheek ‘Rabbit Romeo’ contest to show people how many rabbits they have that are desperate to find a loving home. Rabbits are happiest in pairs; usually a neutered male with a neutered female, so all the 'Rabbit Romeos' will be seeking a lady friend as well as a new home.
Susie said:
We’ve basically put together lonely hearts columns for five of our male rabbits, with descriptions of their personalities and what they’re looking for, and we’re setting up a link so people can vote for who they think is the most lovable ‘Romeo’. We hope it will help get the message out.
We’ve really done it to raise awareness about the number of rabbits we have that need rehoming. Our rabbits get the best care we can give them but it’s no substitute for a loving permanent home and family.

Can you offer a rabbit a home?
'Rabbit Romeo' Ira
Ira and Pepe are just two of the rabbits at our Manchester and Salford Branch waiting for new homes.
Ira and Pepe both came from a very sad case in which 433 animals were removed from one home. The animals were kept stacked up in boxes and hutches and rarely, if ever, experienced sunlight, love, care and attention.
'Rabbit Romeo' Pepe
Ira and Pepe came to us when they were just a month old. They are now eight months old so they have grown up in our care and have never known a real home.
