Dog stolen and returned to owner via microchip
22.01.13
An elderly border terrier, called Tosh, who was snatched from his owner’s house on the edge of The Dingle woodland, Ynys Môn, Wales, then placed in a plastic bag and dumped in a nearby stream has been returned to his delighted owners thanks to a microchip.
The incident happened on Saturday 12 January in the Llangefni area. A rambler found the plastic bag containing Tosh in The Dingle near Llangefni. He was taken to a nearby veterinary practice who soon discovered that he had been microchipped. A relieved Mr and Mrs Green received the news that Tosh was safe and was returned to them.
Mr Green believes that Tosh was taken from their garden during a brief period in the morning. A footpath runs adjacent to their home and it is likely that someone may have snatched Tosh during the few minutes he spent in the garden.
RSPCA Inspector Andy Broadbent said:
This is a bit of a sweet and sour story. It highlights the benefits of microchipping your animal but it’s very disturbing that someone may have stolen this elderly animal and dumped him in a stream after placing him in a plastic bag. We need to find this person quickly so that we can take the matter further.
