Your Spring Sponsorship Update – Dog Kennels

When Nala arrived at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre, she was shy around new people and anxious about handling. But because of you, she developed into a happy, playful dog.

Too anxious to trust

Nala had been overlooked by potential adopters time and time again at her previous RSPCA centre in Hampshire. So she travelled nearly 100 miles to RSPCA Newport Animal Centre, where we hoped a change of location might help her find a home.

But when she arrived, it was clear Nala was struggling. She was a shy girl around new people, and her anxiety around handling made even routine vet care stressful for her.

Thanks to you, our team could give her what she needed – behaviourists who used positive training, time to build bonds, and expert care to help her grow confident at her own pace.

Squeaky toys and snuffle mats that keep her mind busy

Nala’s transformation has been inspiring. She now enjoys having fuss and showing off all the amazing training she’s learned!

Ready for happiness

With your support, our team could give Nala exactly what she needed. We taught her to sit calmly on a mat during vet visits, creating a focused location for rewards. This gave her something predictable, helping ease her anxiety around handling.

The breakthrough came gradually. Nala's confidence grew as she built bonds with staff who spent time with her. She went from being wary of people to seeking out attention. And most incredibly, she went from dreading the vet to actually getting excited to see them!

Now this sweet, clever girl is waiting for her perfect match and thanks to you, she’s ready for it.
