How we raise money
We’re hugely grateful to the charitable Trusts and Foundations that support us. But nearly all of the RSPCA’s voluntary income comes from ordinary people who love animals. So our fundraising activities play a crucial role - reaching out to those people, and making it easy for them to give.
Our supporters are of all ages and from all walks of life. And they don’t all like to help in exactly the same way. That’s why we offer a wide choice of ways to give, so each person can support us in a way that’s convenient and satisfying for them.
Some like the fun of playing the RSPCA Weekly Lottery, while others find it easy to make a small monthly gift that really adds up over time.
Some people prefer to respond to a TV appeal or direct mail letter, in their own time and in private. Some don’t like being stopped in the street by a face-to-face fundraiser; others welcome the opportunity to ask questions about the RSPCA’s work before deciding to support it.
In an ideal world, all our fundraising would be done by volunteers. But in reality we need the skills and knowledge of professional fundraisers, because they help us receive more donations. That’s why, every year, we spend a small amount of our resources on fundraising activity.
Animals are our priority, and yours too: so we are very careful about how we spend your donations. Around 84p in every £1 you give goes directly on our work helping to protect animals from cruelty and neglect.
These pages are here to tell you about some of the different ways we raise money. Find out more about face to face fundraising, door to door fundraising, TV advertising, direct mail and telemarketing.
