All year round, we run important campaigns to highlight urgent needs and raise funds to meet them. So what’s on our minds right now? And how can you be involved?
Urgent: Animal Welfare Crisis
We have seen a massive 65 per cent increase in the animals abandoned over the last five years as pet owners struggle to make ends meet since the recession began. This equates to a potential 40,000 additional animals requiring care. Over the same period, and despite efficiency savings, our running costs have risen 8 per cent from £111m to £120m.
We urgently need your help.
With household finances under increasing strain, many people are finding that they can’t afford to keep an animal. Daily care costs for rescued and abandoned animals are also rising. The daily rate for a rescued animal in an RSPCA welfare centre, including food, housing and staff care, is £15 for a dog and £9.40 for a cat. Both species are now taking nearly ten per cent longer to rehabilitate and rehome than a year ago.
As the number of animals in desperate need grows, our welfare expenditure – which relies entirely on public donations - is already exceeding forecasts set for 2012, as our rescue centres and inspectors are stretched to their limits. To find out more read our news story.
So please help us keep rescuing, feeding and caring for these vulnerable animals — as well as bringing their cruel owners to justice - donate online.
24/7
Right now, as you're reading this, we're rescuing and caring for thousands of animals across England and Wales. In our cities, towns and villages, RSPCA inspectors and officers are rushing to the aid of cats, dogs and horses in danger.
Watch our current TV ad showing some of the appalling conditions we find these animals in. When our phone next rings, we don't know what situation we will find and animal in - but we know we need to be ready to respond, 24/7. The RSPCA is the only charity here for all animals in England and Wales and we only exist because of public funding.
Today, your gift can help ensure we're there for them all, 24/7 - please donate now.
Biggest Animal Rescue
We need your help.
Before the Animal Welfare Act came into force, RSPCA inspectors needed proof that an animal was suffering before taking action. But now we are stepping in and preventing this suffering. The result? Over a staggering 7,000 convictions for animal cruelty secured over the last three years along.
Watch our TV ad to see some of the animals we have helped.
We are working harder than ever to protect animals in danger from neglect and abuse. But we really need more staff, more places in RSPCA animal centres, more treatment, more good. And we need more money to cover the cost – at a time when money is still hard to raise.
If you care about protecting animals, please donate now.
Suffering animals really are depending on your generosity. Having fought so hard to change the law, please don’t let them down.
