Training to become an inspector is a rewarding position where you can play a valuable role in your community. The first step on the ladder for the right people who want a long-term career, with ambitions to become an RSPCA inspector.
As a Trainee Inspector you will be challenged - physically, intellectually and emotionally. This is a uniformed position and you will be recruited locally to work closely with qualified inspectors and other agencies within your community.
Responsibilities while training
- Investigate low-level complaints.
- Work proactively by providing animal welfare advice.
- Collect and rescue animals.
- Provide support for qualified inspectors and help with complex enquiries.
We will provide full training through a number of learning modules, interspersed with working in the field, over several months, at both national and regional offices.
The training will focus on law and people management skills, but we will make full use of your natural communication skills and problem solving abilities.
Entry criteria
- Minimum of five GCSE A-C passes/O Levels (or equivalent) and relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills - experience in the successful management of confrontational situations is essential.
- Experience of working with animals is desirable.
- Able to competently swim 50 metres fully clothed.
- Valid full UK driving licence.
Important information
- A conviction (or formal caution within the past 10 years) for a number of criminal offences will mean a rejection of your application. The offences include violent crime, public order, corruption or dishonesty.
- Officers will now be recruited as Trainees and will hold the position of Trainee Inspector until graduation as a full inspector.
