Mallydams Wood is a nationally acclaimed centre of excellence for animal welfare education set in 55 acres of beautiful woodland.

We have successfully encouraged thousands of children and adults to develop respect and empathy for animals and their environment through activities and courses based on outdoor exploration, hands-on learning and fun.

Education opportunities

Experienced education staff are able to provide curriculum-linked school visits and study programmes tailored to a group's highly specific needs. We provide opportunities for Scout, Guide and Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award courses and general interest courses for the public.

In 2010, we were able to launch a new project to help those from disadvantaged areas in East Sussex. Find out more about The Hastings Wild Things.

Our Education Centre features a well-equipped classroom with tables, chairs, floor cushions, television, video/DVD and CD players and books.

For daytime educational activities we also offer a discovery room featuring colourful and imaginative 3D scenes of a variety of habitats, the animals that live in them and the problems they face. And, thanks to our well-equipped residential centre, we are able to offer overnight stays for extended courses.

Encouraging care and respect for animals

Mallydams Wood Centre manager, Bel Deering, said:

We produce trails, games and activities with the right messages about animal welfare and environmental issues. We encourage care and respect for animals and give them the inspiration to help animals at home and in their local area.
