When Kayla came into our care at the RSPCA Venton Animal Centre, Cornwall, she had already been through so much in such a short space of time as a pregnant stray. She was not used to the company of other cats or people.

However sometimes it is not the owner who picks the animal, but the animal who picks the owner, and this is true for the Stevens family when they went to get a new cat.

When we approached the cabins housing the cats we saw, through the window, a young black cat who stared right in my eyes and I felt immediately that this was the one.

When Kayla was taken out of the cabin and put on the floor she immediately raced around straight for the doors. When I asked how she was with other cats, they brought out another cat and within seconds they were fighting, but I still felt she was the right one.

She had been in the centre for six months and no one seemed to want her, I felt she deserved a chance so decided to adopt her.

From the time she came in our home she was a changed little cat. Calm, friendly, affectionate, playful and settled very quickly.

I am so pleased she chose me to live with
