Primrose and Dudley

Primrose and Dudley have both found their perfect home with a volunteer cat socialiser who travelled 270 miles just to meet them.

Primrose

Ten-year-old Primrose featured in our special appeals as she’d been in our care for far too long and kept being overlooked due to her age

Primrose, a grey tortoiseshell, came into our care after being rescued from cruelty and neglect by our inspectorate after she was found, along with 10 other cats and two dogs, living in shocking conditions in a tiny room of a house.

The room was filthy and very cramped. The animals had no food or water and they were emaciated, withdrawn and clearly suffering.

Neutered grey-and-white Persian Dudley came into our care when he was handed in as a stray.

Dudley was very unwell when he arrived at Great Ayton Animal Centre. He was covered in matted hair and was in desperate need of some TLC.

Because of Dudley’s breed staff at the centre knew he would be difficult to rehome – Persians aren’t everyone’s cup of tea!

It’s not what you know….

Olivia Hatcher, deputy manager at Great Ayton Animal Centre in Middlesborough Cleveland, once worked at our Millbrook Animal Centre in Surrey.

During her time at Millbrook, Olivia became firm friends with volunteer cat socialiser Nicola Pettet. Nicola was particularly fond of Persians and sometimes adopted older cats who were struggling to find new homes.

Olivia, remembering Nicola’s soft spot for Persians and older cats, contacted her old friend and asked if she could help.

The perfect home

Thankfully Nicola said yes and travelled over four hours each way to meet the pair.

Dudley and Primrose both love their new home. Dudley has settled in really well and can’t get enough cuddles. Primrose is loving being out of cat pens after six months in our care, but is taking a little longer to get used to her new mum.

Nicola isn't worried though, here's what she told us:

Primrose is a sweet cat and I already adore her and I will do whatever she needs to be comfy and happy. I don't mind if she wants to have nothing to do with me and be grumpy. I'm just glad I could offer them both a forever home.

Find your perfect pet

Sadly we have many animals in our care who are finding it difficult to find new homes. This is through no fault of their own and would make wonderful pets if somebody gave them a chance.

Could you offer one of our longer stay, or elderly animals, a second chance at life?

Take a look at our special appeals or our Elderly Animals Rehoming Scheme today and you could help change a life.

Thank you.
