Max and Paddy

Cats Max and Paddy are looking for a home together © RSPCA

Tabby-and-white cat Max and black longhaired cat Paddy are around six years old and were in the care of our Great Ayton Animal Centre in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire.

These two adult cats came into our care together in January 2011 due to welfare concerns.

The pair were very shy of strangers whilst in our care and completely dependant on each other, so needed to find a home together.

The challenge of rehoming together

Finding one home for two cats is often a challenge, particularly when they are so suspicious of new people!

Potential adopters are often drawn to the cats which are initially friendly, and most have not considered the possibility of taking on two cats.

Max and Paddy’s shyness, and devotion to each other, meant that the pair were being overlooked in favour of seemingly friendlier cats.

To give the pair the best chance of finding a home together we featured them in our special appeals.

Adopters couldn’t be happier

Thankfully a terrific couple were able to see past their initial awkwardness and offer them a loving new home.

A few months on and their new owners are delighted with how the latest editions to their family are settling in. Take a look at what Erica and Graham have to say:

Max and Paddy were shy boys when they came to us. They had been at the centre for a number of months and we needed to allow them a little longer than a couple of weeks to settle in.

We had a few mishaps on the way but we were quite prepared for that! Four months on and they are now perfect cats.

Max loves to get out in the garden and survey his territory.  Paddy likes treats and sleep! The pair of them come to bed every night and love to keep warm.

They are active boys and still enjoy playing despite not being kittens.

We couldn't be happier with Max and Paddy and we hope they feel the same about us!

Adopt a special pair

We’re always looking for potential adopters who would be willing to take on a pair of new pets. Often animals we rehome together have already been through so much they couldn’t bear to be parted.
