Case studies

Since 2002, PetRetreat has helped more than 600 families and 850 pets - all victims of domestic abuse.

You can read about the difference PetRetreat has made to people's and animals' lives in our PetRetreat booklet - The story so far (PDF 454KB).

Here are just some of their stories.

All names have been changed.

Patience came into PetRetreat's care with a painful condition that her owner had been unable to treat.

  • Cat Oliver taken in by PetRetreat © RSPCA Maggie and Oliver

Maggie would only leave her violent circumstances and go into refuge on the grounds that she knew her cat Oliver would be safe.

  • Cocker Spaniel x Patrick © RSPCA Denise and Patrick

Patrick was kicked and locked in the shed for the night as a punishment to his owner Denise before PetRetreat took him in.

  • Six-year-ol Beagle x Flo © RSPCA Eliza, Daisy and Flo

Flo came into PetRetreat's care when the violence at home escalated and Eliza fled to a woman's refuge with her daughter Daisy.
