Lockwood Centre For Horses & Donkeys

What we do

At Lockwood we take in sick, old or rescued donkeys to give them a forever home they will thrive in.

It's wonderful to be able to continue the work of the Lockwoods who were passionate about saving these gorgeous and intriguing animals.

Our donkeys enjoy first class facilities, grooms who adore looking after them, as well as veterinary and farriery care whenever it is needed.

These donkeys must be so pleased that their luck has changed!

Dingle and Riley

Take the example of Dingle and Riley who were rescued by RSPCA inspectors from a field in Radlett, Hertfordshire in March 2010.

They were in a terrible state and had been badly neglected.

Dingle was emaciated and couldn’t stand up on his own. Riley’s backbone had been rubbed raw. They both had lice and sores all over their bodies; and their feet were in a terrible way too.

Thankfully, the skilled team at Lockwood were there to nurse them back to health. Round the clock care from the dedicated team of grooms as well as costly veterinary treatments and farrier work have turned the lives of these two little donkeys around.

They are now safe and well in their new environment, thriving amongst their new friends at Lockwood.

Lockwood horses and ponies

Lockwood plays an important role operating as an RSPCA rescue and rehablitation centre for horses and ponies that have been badly treated.

Many need costly veterinary and farriery work to get them back to full health. They also need lots of time and patience to get them used to people again.

Horses must be handled, educated and socialised before they can be rehomed.

Rehoming

If you are interested in rehoming a horse or pony, please visit the main RSPCA rehoming page and complete the Horse and pony application form (PDF 62.9KB).
