Bernie was beaten badly

If we hadn’t received the call, Bernie would still be suffering. Because one person stood up to abuse, we were able to save Bernie and find him the loving home he deserves.

We’re proud of what Bernie overcame

Bernie was 11 months old when he came into our care. A member of the public told us they’d seen Bernie’s owner beat him for several minutes – when we got that call we rushed to his side. Bernie was limping, his eyes were bloodshot and his skin was in a really bad state – he needed our help.

After a full body x-ray and blood and urine tests, we were disgusted to see the extent of his injuries. Bernie had facial fractures, there were cuts and bruises around his face, and he had very painful muscle injuries. The police seized Bernie, and his owner signed him over to us.

I’m so happy Bernie’s gone to a forever home where he’ll get the life he deserves

Cara Gibbon, RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer

No animal deserves abuse

We took Bernie to our RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch, where he could begin his long recovery. It was sad to see how shut down he was when he arrived. Everything seemed new to him, and he was so uncertain, but this wasn't surprising, considering what he’d been through.

Bernie’s story isn’t new – reports of abuse peak in summer*. Although we’ll never stop fighting for the animals who need us, we know we can’t help them alone. So please donate today and help us tackle the worst cases of cruelty and abuse. There are many more animals like Bernie in desperate need of our help.

We’re thrilled Bernie bounced back

Bernie flourished in his new home environment. He found his favourite spot on the sofa and became the puppy he wasn’t allowed to be before. You can help other animals in need find their happy ever after by supporting us this summer. Please donate today.
