Nelson's scars tell a sad story

We got to Nelson just in time, rescuing him from cruelty and constant fear. But other animals are still facing deliberate cruelty this summer. Will you help them?

We got to Nelson just in time

Nelson is a sweetheart who makes everyone smile with his goofy personality. He’s always excited when he sees his lead and loves going on walks. You’d never know he was once a terrified dog, covered in scars after repeated beatings.

Nelson was desperate to escape. With clear signs of trauma, we rushed him to our animal hospital for urgent care.

As well as the open wounds on his leg and head, X-rays revealed injuries to his back and two skull fractures. Vets believe his suffering had lasted at least two weeks.

We're working hard to stop animals living in pain. Your kindness helps dogs like Nelson escape cruelty and find the loving homes they deserve.

I’ve never seen a dog so terrified. When I saw the wounds, my only thought was to get him out of that situation and to safety.

Undoing harm takes time

Nelson was repeatedly beaten and left to suffer in pain before we rescued him. It’s hard to imagine, but last summer we received 69 reports of deliberate animal cruelty every single day*. With a donation to the RSPCA, you can join thousands of animal lovers taking a stand against cruelty and abuse.

After months of intense medical treatment, specialist care and gentle training, Nelson was finally ready to experience normal life for the first time. He learned how to go on walks, but needed a special home with owners who could help ease his anxiety.

Then we found Donna and her son Ben, who felt an instant connection to Nelson and wanted to help a dog with a traumatic past. He’s now a happy boy who loves nothing more than playtime, exploring and naps on the bed.

part 3

Nelson’s new life of love and kindness

Today, Nelson is a cherished member of the family. “When I first saw him we bonded instantly,” says Donna. “He was so gentle and sweet natured – he was adorable and wanted love!”

Although his traumatic past left him anxious and scared of loud noises, Nelson has come such a long way. But sometimes a sudden movement, like simply picking up a slipper, can still frighten him.

Despite this, he loves his new home and is now comfortable enough to take naps on the bed.

He’s living the life he deserves. But so many animals are still suffering. We’re working tirelessly to reach them in time, but we can’t do it alone. This summer, your kindness could save a life.
