Evie's come a long way

Little Evie’s leg was broken and she was left to suffer in pain. Your support helped us get her the operation she needed. But many more animals are still counting on our help. Will you fund a rescue this summer?

Despite everything, Evie’s still got that ‘kitten energy’

She may be two-and-a-half, but playful Evie acts like a kitten. You’d never guess her traumatic past.

Alerted by a worried witness, we found Evie cowering in pain. 'She was very, very timid and scared,' says RSPCA Inspector Kim Greaves.

X-rays showed her leg had been broken by a forceful impact. She was unable to move for two days and crying in pain. She was even given human painkillers, which can be fatal to cats. Thankfully, she survived.

We stepped in and took Evie away for urgent care. But we wouldn't have been able to save her without support from kind people like you.

Evie should not have been left for two days. Her injury would have been so painful and must have really hurt her.

From cruelty to kindness

Evie had been left in pain for two days after her injury. Sadly, her story is not a one-off. Last summer we received at least one report of deliberate animal cruelty every 10 minutes*.

We rushed Evie in for emergency leg surgery and gave her medicine to ease her pain. Then she went to stay at RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch. With the right care over the course of a year, her loving, playful side shone through.

Since then, Evie has started a wonderful new life with Victoria and fellow rescue cat Lillie. “When I went to visit Evie at the RSPCA cattery she came right up to me and was purring,” remembers Victoria. “She was so sweet. Knowing her history broke my heart.”

part 3

Evie's cosy new life

Thanks to our expert carers, Evie now trusts people again. Her limp has gone, and although she still doesn’t like being touched on her hip, she’s improving every day.

“She’s one of the loveliest cats I have ever met,” says Animal Care Assistant, Richard. “Given what she’s been through, that’s miraculous."
Evie’s playful personality brings a constant smile to Victoria’s face. She is inseparable from her tabby friend Lillie, and loves nothing more than climbing trees and racing through the house.

“I remember the first time I let Evie outside in the garden it was the most amazing thing to see,” says Victoria. “It was like she had finally found her freedom."

Evie is living the sort of life we want for every cat. But so many animals are still suffering. We’re working tirelessly to reach them in time, but we can’t do it alone. This summer, your kindness could save a life. Will you help us?
