Betty was left to suffer

Betty had been suffering for weeks when we rescued her. Today, she’s safe and loved in her forever home and stars in our new film ‘Reflections’.

Betty’s transformation

We rescued Betty after weeks of neglect. She had matted fur, itchy skin, and infected ears. She’d been left in a rainy garden with her friend Princess, when their owner went on holiday. We rushed the dogs to a vet who removed 500g of Betty’s matted fur, and gave her steroids and antibiotics.

When Betty first arrived at our RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch, she was terrified of new people. But love and care helped her trust again and now she’s thriving.

Betty can still be timid at times. But once she feels secure and knows she can trust you, her sassy nature comes out!

Give back to animals this winter

Today, Betty is loving life with forever owner, Sara. “She can still be timid at times, and is scared of the wind as she used to be kept outside, but she’s come such a long way,” says Sara. Betty stars in our new film ‘Reflections’, which shows the profound impact rescue animals have on our lives.

This winter, many other animals are facing neglect, but you have the power to save lives. Will you give back to animals this Christmas?

Betty was terrified, her fur was matted and she was suffering from painful ear infections and skin problems.

Our carers treated Betty and found her a home. Today, she enjoys cuddles on the sofa and watching television!

Once she had healed, staff at our centre found Betty her forever home.

“When I saw Betty’s picture it was literally love at first sight,” says Sara. Adjusting to living indoors took time, but Betty soon learnt to enjoy the love and care she always deserved. “Her favourite thing to do is snuggle up on the sofa. Once she knows she can trust you her sassy nature comes out!” says Sara.

Sara even arranged for Betty and her friend Princess to be reunited. “They definitely recognised each other,” she says. “It was so special to see them together again.”

Watching Betty play with her friend Princess goes to show how acts of kindness - whether that’s a call to the RSPCA or the decision to adopt - can change a life for the better, forever.

This winter, many animals are facing abandonment and neglect. Each year, we receive nearly one million calls to our cruelty and advice line. We’re working tirelessly to reach animals in time. But keeping our rescuers on the road and providing life-saving care costs money. We rely on your generosity to make this possible.

Together, we can give back to more animals like Floss, Boris and Lola, so we can give them the lives they deserve. Please make a donation today to help us be there for every kind of animal this winter.
