Leaps and Bounds
We have moved ‘Leaps & Bounds’ to new site in Frankley Green
30 September 2012 marked the end of an era for animal care in Birmingham as the RSPCA Barnes Hill site closed for the final time after 50 years service to animal welfare in the area.
In additon however, this also marked the start of a bigger and brighter future for the charity as staff, volunteers and animals alike moved to a new state of the art facility close by in Frankley Green, which is 30 times larger than the previous centre providing the opportunity to help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome hundreds more animals every year.
The new RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre & Hospital at Newbrook Farm – is now a world class centre of excellence for animal welfare marking the charity’s first ever launch of a state of the art flagship site.
This new site joins animal rescue with rehoming all under one roof with much greater capacity for up to 160 cats, 60 dogs and numerous birds, animals and other small furries in need of our care. See more information and contact details for the hospital and animal centre.
The Leaps & Bounds appeal to fund the new build was officially launched on World Animal Day in October 2011 as the old RSPCA site became simply overwhelmed with demand leaving staff unable to deal with the high numbers of animals coming through the doors.
The buildings were sadly no longer fit for purpose having suffered substantial wear and tear and the centre was unfortunately the only site in the country with a security officer on duty due to the prevalence of anti-social behaviour – so something had to change.
Thanks to our supporters
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of more than 30,000 supporters, countless trusts and businesses and a highly dedicated operational team, the ‘Leaps & Bounds Appeal’ to raise £3m in just 12 months has now officially closed and the new facility is almost ready for full operation.
The public have been so generous in supporting our achievements thus far, so on behalf of all at Newbrook Farm and indeed all the animals we care for, our thanks go to each and every individual who contributed to the appeal – many of whom are recognised on our Newbrook Farm family tree.
Join the Newbrook Farm family tree
Although the ‘Leaps and Bounds’ appeal has officially closed, there's still time to join our family tree or to get involved with the new facility, as there are still several items we require to kit out the new site and as we enter our exciting first year in new premises our annual operating costs will be in excess of £1m - most of which relies on public generosity.
The new centre offers the chance to create a lasting legacy for the city and a symbol for the community’s commitment to help us combat animal cruelty.
It is an icon of pride for the RSPCA at the forefront of animal veterinary and welfare treatment as we continue to protect the lives of animals now and in the future - but we can only do this with your help.
