Skye is an 18-month-old Husky cross who has won the hearts of everyone at the centre. Her playful nature and zest for life are truly contagious and she loves interacting with everyone she meets and is always excited to play and zoom around in our secure compounds. Skye lacked socialisation early on, and due to this can be wary in new situations. We feel she would cope better in a rural/semi rural home, where she can go on walks that are quieter, and where she can gradually build up her exposure to busier exercise areas such as parks and roads where there is heavier traffic. With patience, gentle guidance, and plenty of positive reinforcement, we believe she will continue to progress well. She would benefit from a well secured garden, so that she has her own safe space while she adjusts to all the new experiences around her.
.While Skye settles well with other dogs when on a lead, she struggles to interact off-lead, so we feel she would be happiest as the only dog in her new home. She would likely be comfortable in a home with children of secondary school age or older. Skye enjoys car trips and would love new owners who are happy to take her to secure fields regularly for exercise. However, she should be kept on a lead in public spaces for safety.
When Skye first arrived at the centre, she had an upset stomach that required treatment. This issue has since been resolved, but she will need to stay on a hypoallergenic diet, as it suits her well. Skye has not yet been taught to be clean in a home environment, but is spotlessly clean now in her kennel, waiting to be let out on the grass each morning when we arrive, so we feel with consistency and reward she will continue this in a home.
With the right care and attention, Skye will make a wonderful and loyal companion, so if you have researched Huskies, and feel that they are the right breed for your lifestyle, please complete this Online Application Form. It is really useful if you can please include lots of information on the type of home you can offer and your previous experience of dogs.

If you are interested in adopting an animal from West Hatch RSPCA, please have a look on "Find a Pet" in the first instance. Once you have seen an animal you are interested in, you can apply easily online via the link to a google form at the bottom of their profile. Once we receive the application, it will be reviewed by a member of staff, and if you are a suitable match we will then make contact to discuss the animal further. This will be either by email initially or by phone. We will then ask you to email us photos of your home and garden, as well as ID. This continues to replace the homevisit that we would have carried out pre-covid. We can then make an appointment for you to come to the centre to meet your chosen animal before you commit to adoption.
