Newport Animal Centre

Animals for rehoming during Covid-19

Our centre remains closed to the public, although we can start finding forever homes for all the animals who have been patiently waiting during lockdown. Our normal adoption procedure has been altered to adhere to the safety regulations in place from the government. If you are interested in adopting an animal, please go to the RSPCA Newport animal centre website and look on 'find-a-pet'. All the animals currently available for rehoming will be advertised on there, along with photos, description of the animals personality and their ideal family match.

If you find a suitable match for you and your family, email newport@rspca.org.uk and request a perfect match form. Alternatively, if you go onto the main RSPCA website, you will be able to download the perfect match form directly from there. Once you have completed the form you can email it back to us.

We will go through your form to see if you are the 'perfect match' for each other, we will then give you a telephone call to discuss the animal in more detail and answer any questions you may have in regards to the process, the animals behaviour, feeding etc. If you are still interested we will then arrange a 'virtual meet' with your selected animal. If you would then like to continue with the adoption we will arrange some pre adoption home checks using google maps, photos, video - we are unable to safely carry out our usual home visits, so the process has been adapted to ensure we adhere to government guidelines.

Once all home visit checks and adoption paperwork has been completed, we will arrange a mutually convenient time to transfer the animal directly to you - this will apply to cats and small animals only. For dogs, we will still be able to transfer the dog directly to you, although we will arrange a meet in your garden and go for a walk locally, this process will be fully explained when we discuss the animal with you. As we are transferring the animal directly to your home, you must live within one hour of the centre.

At all times during the adoption process we will ensure your safety - paperwork can be filled in electronically, adoption fees paid over the phone via card payment and during the animals transfer we will ensure social distancing and safety measures are in place and government guidelines are followed.
