How our adoption process works

If you would like to give a pet that much needed second chance in life, then you’ve come to the right place.

Most of the animals in our care have had a difficult start in life, having been victims of cruelty. For that reason we need to find special homes, with special people, who can help our pets to learn what it’s really like to be in a loving, caring home. Give a rescued animal a second chance

In 2016, our RSPCA South Yorkshire Animal Centre gave over 1,000 animals a second chance of a new home. Nationally, the RSPCA re-homed over 55,000 pets.

Animals like Florence, a 14-year-old poodle/shih tzu cross who was brought into RSPCA care in a shocking state. Her eyes and ears were infected, her teeth were rotten and her fur had become so matted that she'd lost her front paws through lack of circulation. Brave little Florence made a fantastic recovery and now has a second chance of life thanks to her new owner Karen Branagh: "I cannot praise the officer who saved her, or the vets who care for her, enough."
If you would like to adopt one of the animals in our care, we will take you through a matchmaking process to help find not only the right home for our animals, but also the right animal for you.

Find your perfect pet

Instead of buying a dog or puppy, why not enjoy the wonderful feeling that you’ve given a special home to an animal that needs it? At the South Yorkshire Animal Centre we have over 30 dogs and 40 cats, plus rabbits, birds and small furries – and new animals arrive daily. You can check this website and our Facebook page for some of our animals, but the best thing to do is visit the Centre.

Our team of expert animal care staff will answer any questions you have, and in the case of dogs you can walk them in our field or introduce an existing dog at a socialising session.

You also get four weeks' free pet insurance from Petplan if you rehome a dog or cat from our centre, a starter food pack and a free name tag. The animal will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed (if appropriate).

You can also choose all your pet accessories and food in our Centre Pet Store where ALL profits go to help our animals, you even get a voucher included in your adoption fee to spend!

Support our rehoming work

Even if you cannot re-home a pet just now, you can become a sponsor and you can help provide animals with shelter, food love and care. Ask at the Animal Centre about our Safe Haven pet pen sponsorship scheme or email us.
