Stort Valley Branch

Interested in volunteering for the RSPCA?

The Stort Valley Branch is run totally by volunteers and we are a separately registered charity & branch of the RSPCA and are primarily responsible for raising our own funds locally. As a branch we fundraise by various events and collections that enable us to provide a clinic staffed by a qualified Veterinary Surgeon for people on a means tested benefit. We also have an advice centre that you can telephone or call in to obtain advice on the care of animals, shelters and rescue centres, etc. Our branch area extends from Saffron Walden Essex to Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, including Bishop’s Stortford, Harlow and the villages surrounding this corridor.

If you have some spare time and an interest in animal welfare, please contact the clinic by phone 01279 306058  or call in and meet us to find out what we do and how you can help.  You can also take a look at our Branch Wesbite for up to date volunteering opportunities

In-store Collections

We generally collect at Pets At Home and Tesco stores locally in Harlow and would really like some volunteers to come along and help us.  We are trying to build up a network of volunteers who would be able to help us with these store collections; it involves standing in local stores collecting donations from members of the public.  We normally arrange 2 hour shifts with people collecting in pairs, so that people can fit these around their normal daily activities.  At the moment we do not have enough volunteers to cover all the collection opportunities available to us.  If you could spare a couple of hours please call the clinic on 01279 306058 for further information.

Volunteer Drivers

We sometimes need volunteers to transport animals mainly cats, to and from vets or to our animal shelters - one shelter is near Braintree and the other is near Potters Bar.

We help families on low income with the neutering of cats, these families often do not have transport.

Other Volunteering/Fundraising Opportunities

We always need people who can give time when they can for the following:

  • Street and store collections, sponsored walks, runs or abseils!
  • Placing & emptying collecting tins in local stores and pubs, etc.
  • Coffee mornings, participating in other innovative fundraising activities
  • We occasionally need new volunteers to work in our clinic.

We occasionally need new fosterers to look after the animals that come into our care.
