We have an exciting opportunity for an amazing person to assist our Operations Manager in the smooth running of the Oxfordshire and Reading Branch of the RSPCA.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Animal Welfare & Rehoming Assistant will help with all aspects of running a busy RSPCA branch. This will include dealing with enquiries from the public, arranging care for rescued dogs, cats and rabbits, assessing potential adopters, and overseeing the process of matching animals to their forever homes.
Responsibilities
- Monitoring the branch inbox and responding to telephone enquires; escalating matters to relevant people and ensuring timely follow up.
- Maintaining accurate records using our dedicated animal shelter software, updating microchips and registering pet insurance.
- Processing rehoming applications; matching animals to potential adopters based on the personality and needs of the animal.
- Promoting responsible pet ownership; providing potential adopters with advice and ensuring they are aware of the commitments of owning an animal.
- Conducting and arranging home visits for potential adopters and assessing their suitability for animal adoption.
- Providing outcomes about the decision as to whether potential adopters have been successful in their application for an animal.
- Arranging viewing appointments, payment of adoption fees and organising collection to finalise the adoption.
- Assisting with post-homing advice and collecting feedback on the process to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Creating advertisements for animals in the branch’s care that need rehoming, ensuring they are listed in the best places and updating adverts as required.
- Ensuring our rescued animals receive the highest standards of care, including monthly health checks, assist with housing and husbandry especially at our rabbit centre.
- Providing hands-on support at our rabbit rehoming centre in Harwell.
- Attending community and fund-raising events, transporting equipment as required.
- Assisting in the co-ordination of volunteers for fundraising events.
- Assisting with media and social media content, interviews etc.
- Assisting the Operations Manager with any other tasks as may arise.
Terms
The role is hybrid working with bases in South Oxfordshire.
Salary £24,000, 35 hours a week plus benefits, some weekend working.
Initially 12 months contract with a view to becoming permanent.
Skills and experience
- Exceptional administrative and organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- A good level of education, GCSE Maths and English A-C.
- Strong IT skills using Word, Excel and inhouse computer system.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also collaborating effectively as part of a team with good time management.
- While it is not essential, it will be advantageous to have experience of working in an animal related environment and a good understanding of an animal’s needs, especially dogs, cats and rabbits.
- Animal Care qualification would be an advantage.
Other requirements
Full clean UK driving license, own vehicle essential.
Applicants should be based within reasonable commuting distance of Wantage and Harwell.
