Joseph has spent much of his career as Chairman and Managing Director of ethical company Beauty Without Cruelty, which pioneered cruelty-free cosmetics. During his 21 years there he helped to expand it across the UK and into the global market. The business developed a network of associated companies and partners throughout Europe, North America and Australia.
Joseph has been an active voice on the care of research animals with a particular focus on animal testing in the cosmetics industry. He sat as a council member for the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association for 14 years where he gained knowledge and experience in dealing with the government and the EU.
He retired from active business management in 1998 to engage more directly in animal welfare. He has served on the RSPCA Council from 2003 to 2009 and from 2014 to date. He has also been involved with other charities over the years including The Vegetarian Society and the Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Foundation which helps women suffering from cancer.
Joseph now divides his time between England and Italy and is involved in animal welfare in both countries as a volunteer.
