David trained in law and was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn in 1978. He was subsequently appointed director of a higher education business school working closely with Business Link where he developed his skills in business analysis and development. He has been the director of three companies, including a company based in the far east which ran offices in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, and worked at ministerial level.
In the late 1990’s David joined the RSPCA Rochdale and District Branch before being made branch secretary in 2001 and later branch chairman in 2007. In 2005 he was elected as a trustee on the national council of the RSPCA. He later sat on a number of committees and was elected the chair of branches panel, recognising the strong role the network of RSPCA branches play in furthering animal welfare.
Alongside his fellow trustees he played a pivotal role in raising more than £750,000 to help rebuild the branch’s animal centre in 2006 and establish a network of 11 shops to support the branch’s income. This centre has gone on to provide care for thousands of animals from across the region.
David has had a love of all animals since childhood and devotes his spare time to helping animals in every way he can. He is also the proud owner of rescue cats and four rescued collies.
