Cockerels in need of homes!

Chickens are a staple here at West Hatch. The majority come in to us as strays but sometimes we take in large groups from unsuitable conditions.

Hens are always easily rehomed but unfortunately cockerels tend to be overlooked. Last year alone we took in 25 cockerels and many of them stay with us for months before finding a home. At the moment we have seven handsome roosters all looking for homes!

Rod Stewart and Jon Bon Jovi are Frizzle bantams who came to West Hatch as strays back in June 2016!! Staff here at the Centre cannot believe there has been absolutely no interest in this docile, good natured and entertaining pair. Surely there must be someone out there who will love them? This rocking duo would love to find a home either together without any hens or separately to live with a group of bantam hens.

Bradley and Cooper came to us as strays and are also bantams. They were found wandering across the open moor with their wings clipped and therefore unable to escape danger! In addition, they also had to endure freezing weather until rescued by an Inspector. If this wasn’t enough, they then had to spend 5 days in quarantine due to the risk of bird flu and the DEFRA restrictions that were in place.

Rocky is a cockerel that is small in stature but big in character! He is looking for a more rural location due to his impressive lung capacity which will allow him to express himself freely without disrupting the neighbours.

Fellow bantams, Fowler and Rocky Rhodes share their pen with a lovely group of four hens. They were another unfortunate group of chickens who found themselves wandering the lanes. This was likely to be intentional as no owner ever came forward to claim them. Since Fowler and Rocky Rhodes are happy living together and sharing the hens they would love to find a home as a group. We are unable to rehome the hens without a cockerel as it would be unfair to split them.

If you are interested in rehoming one or more of our cockerels, please don’t hesitate to contact us 0300 123 0747. They are all desperately awaiting their forever homes!
