TREACLE

Treacle came into RSPCA care via the Inspectorate when her owner could no longer look after her. She began losing weight which resulted in a welfare concern.

She is a pretty little staffy type with an affectionate personality. She loves human contact and will often crave it. She may be most happy as the only pet in the household in order for her to have all the attention.

Treacle is a fantastic dog with huge potential - if you've owned a staffy type previously then she may be just the dog for you!

Treacle is up for homing under our Assisted Adoption Scheme.
She has been diagnosed with 'Seasonal Allergic Dermatitis' which causes skin irritation (a common problem with staffies we have found).

Treacle has been trialed on steroid tablets, Malaseb baths & Piriton antihistamines to bring the inflammation of her skin under control however none of these treatments had significant effect of getting rid of the symptoms entirely.
Our vet suggested a trial of monthly injections of Cytopoint 20mg - this has had fantastic results with Treacle’s symptoms completely clearing up and she is no longer itchy!

As allergies are not curable, Treacle will require ongoing Cytopoint 20mg Injections every 4 weeks to manage this condition. We are able to offer the the injection at a reduced price of £32 per injection.

**It is also very important to note that this is a seasonal allergy as it flared up in April which coincided with a spell of hot weather and grass cutting. It is very likely that Treacle may be able to stop the injections for the winter time but this will be under guidance from the vet.

The RSPCA North Somerset Branch will support this condition through our Consulting Vets Bridge Veterinary Surgery in Highbridge.

Our vet visits our Animal Centre every Thursday between 11am - 1pm. As Treacle’s injections need to be administered by our vet we are looking for a local home (within 30 mins drive approx of us) so that her adopters can bring Treacle to our vet visit for pre-booked injection appointments every 4 weeks.

Due to the medication being injectables and needing refrigeration we are unable to support an out of area adoption as we are unable to post the medication to an adopter. Should an adopter live out of the local area they would be fully responsible financially for this condition at whatever cost their vet charges.

To enquire about Treacle please call on 01278 782671 during our opening times 11am-1pm & 2-4.30pm Tuesday to Sunday.
We do not take reservations via email. Thank you
