TOMMY

Tommy is another one of our longer staying cats. He came into our care last summer in a very poorly condition. Poor Tommy had never been neutered by his owners, had been roaming around and living the life of a wandering tom cat, getting into fights with other tom cats. After a particularly bad fight with one of his arch rivals he ended up with such a bad infection that his entire face and head became one big abscess which was oozing pus from several places including from his eyes. He was very, very poorly when he first came in and we didn’t know if he’d make it or if he’d succumb to the major infection. Thankfully after a few days of staying at the vets he started to show improvement and was discharged into a foster home. Unfortunately the infection proved to be very deep and more abscesses kept on forming around his face resulting in lots more trips back to the vets, twice daily eye and face cleans which were very unpleasant for him, and multiple courses of antibiotics over the weeks. Finally he was given the all clear by the vets and was able to be neutered and move out of his “hospital” accommodation into one of our bigger cat pens.
When he first moved to his new foster home he was a little bit scared and didn’t show himself off very well, but with time and patience he’s proved to be a lovely cat who is pretty laid back. He seems to have forgiven us for all the things we had to do to him to make him better and now tolerates his eyes being wiped and being groomed with no problem.
We think he’d be better off living as either an only cat, or just with females as he has that history of getting into scraps with other males. We think he’s possibly around 8yrs old but it’s hard to know.

  • I need to be able to go outside and explore
  • I could live with children of secondary school age
  • I love a cat nap
  • I may be able to live with a friendly dog
