Boris Johnson, MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, today visited RSPCA Hillingdon, Slough, Windsor, Kingston & District branch, a separately registered local charity, to discuss the ever-increasing issues and challenges faced by the branch, which has seen a sharp rise in abandoned and unwanted animals during the current cost of living crisis.

RSPCA Hillingdon is a self-funding branch of the RSPCA, completely dependent on donations from the public and proceeds from its charity shops, and receives no Government support. It runs an extremely busy Animal Clinic at 16 Crescent Parade that supports pet owners in the branch area on restricted incomes, and a Homing Facility that rehomes hundreds of animals every year.

Mr Johnson met with Irene Hansford, Branch Chair, and other Trustees from the branch at the Animal Clinic, where he took a great interest in the daily work of the team, and watched the vets in action as they carried out a spay operation on a large female dog.

Irene Hansford, Branch Chair, commented, “We are experiencing enormous challenges, with a huge increase in stray animals, which are often just abandoned on the streets, and the spiralling costs of running our branch day to day. We are honoured and grateful that Mr Johnson took the time to visit our Clinic to discuss these growing issues.”
