Our Miracle Kittens

Our Miracle Kittens image

Throughout summer we have been inundated with kittens, but there is one litter that sticks in everybody's mind.

At the end of July a member of the public walked into the Centre carrying a cardboard box. He had found the box on a nearby street, containing four tiny two week old tabby kittens covered in fleas, lying on a filthy blanket.

The animal care staff immediately got to work de-fleaing them - armed with Frontline and a flea comb. Eventually they were flea free and the next task was trying to get some kitten milk down them. We named them George, Harry, William & Teddy as they came to us soon after the royal birth.

They went straight out with one of our dedicated fosterers who spent the next two nights up trying to coax them to feed before disaster struck - they came down with cat flu.

It was hardly surprising considering the state they were found in, but it was devastating none-the-less as abandoned kittens can struggle even when they are relatively healthy. Our fosterer brought them back to the Centre to avoid infecting her own cat and another volunteer took over. We were very worried about the smallest of the kittens, George, as he was very weak and non-responsive at times. We warned the volunteer that it was quite likely he wasn't going to make it.

However, a few days later we were shocked and relieved to discover they had all made it through the worst! The medication prescribed by the vet, along with lots of love and care, had made all the difference and even George began to feed well. They were transferred to a final fosterer who has been caring for them for the past month. During this time they have blossomed into wonderful little kittens.

We are delighted to announce that all four of them are doing great! They have almost finished their treatment for ear mites and in a few days will be ready for adoption. Their latest fosterer cannot bear to part with them all so she is adopting Teddy and William. George and Harry (short for Harriet it turns out!) will be coming back to the Centre shortly, ready to find their forever homes.

Pictured above is William, healthy and happy!

We are so grateful to our fantastic fosterers for nursing our miracle kittens back to health.

UPDATE - George & Harriet have gone off to a new home together. We're so very happy for them.
