SIMBA

Simba is a beautiful 3 year old male Saluki cross greyhound . He arrived into RSPCA care via the inspectors and was extremely emaciated ,fearful and covered in small wounds . He has been on a strict weight gain regime and lots of work has gone into building his confidence with people . He has gained back lots of weight but still has more to gain and therefore a commitment to providing a high quality diet is a must . He  was in kennels for about a month but has since been transferred into foster care where he has thrived.

Below is what his foster parents have to say about him.

Simba is an extremely affectionate dog whose confidence has improved massively since living with us . He adores people and has bonded closely with us. We have seen him transform from a nervous skeleton to a loving  cuddly dog . . Simba doesn't seem very interested in playing with toys but will play chase a ball from time to time and is learning to use puzzle toys . His favourite thing ( after food !) is to sit next to his chosen person for long periods of time .

As a consequence of his emaciation and probably having  had to fend for himself before being rescued , he will counter surf if there is food or used plates etc and will attempt to raid bins if they are not securely fastened . Whilst in foster , he has made great strides in learning not to scavenge and snatch food as well as  learning some impulse control . He is extremely well behaved in the house and shows no interest in any non food related household items .

He has improved in leaps and bounds with confidence when walking , occasionally he will be timid and needs coaxing to continue/start the walk . He loves to sniff everything and tends to jump up on bins , although again he is getting better with this . He will bark at and pull towards other dogs on walks , but this is mainly as he wants to play and say hello .When allowed to meet , he shows an interest in playing with them however he can be over enthusiastic and doesn't always understand when dogs don't want to play or their body language is telling him that they have had enough .

Simba will need a home where there is someone around the majority of the day as he is showing separation anxiety tendencies , however these can be worked on as his confidence increases with his new owners . A commitment to continuing his training is essential and previous experience owning sighthounds would be beneficial as they are a sensitive breed . Simba is generally dog friendly but we feel he would benefit from being an only dog as he needs lots of attention . He is to be rehomed to an adult only home as he is unsure around children .

Simba will repay your efforts with boundless love and companionship .

My personality

  • I need training how to sit nicely (and then I can master the rest)
  • I'd prefer an adult only household
  • I need someone with me most of the time
  • I'd prefer to be the only dog in a home
  • I'd prefer to be the only animal in a home
  • I'm quiet but full of love
  • I love fuss and attention
