Newkey is a beautiful tortoiseshell cat who came into our care as her elderly owner had to go into a care home.

Newkey was very unhappy when she first arrived in the cattery but she has settled in and her lovely nature is now beginning to shine through.

She loves being around people and getting lots of attention. She has the tendency to nibble on you when she gets overexcited. This is not a naughty or malicious act but pure excitement and love. Behaviour experts believe that a cat can give these so called “love bites” as a way of showing affection. It is often done while the cat is being played with or while someone is stroking her. The nip is a way to show that she is enjoying the affection.

You can see and hear from the video that Newkey loves to be stroked. She also enjoys being brushed, except on her belly where she is a bit ticklish.

Newkey also loves to play and will turn into a crazy kitten when chasing her string-toy.

During her health check Newkey was diagnosed with a heart murmur. It is not certain if this is due to the initial upset of coming into unfamiliar surroundings. Her new owner would need to be aware of this and Newkey’s new vet would need to be informed of her condition.

Otherwise Newkey is happy and healthy. She is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. She is up to date with her flea and worm treatment. She is currently on dry and wet food and especially enjoys Sheba Flakes.

Newkey isn’t keen on other cats so is looking for a home as the only pet.

Due to getting a bit overexcited while cuddling and playing she cannot be rehomed with young children. An adult only home or a home with mature teenagers would be fine.

If after reading this you think you would like to offer Newkey a chance of a happy life, please give us a call.

As the cattery in Horsham is currently full, Newkey is being boarded at Becks Boarding Cattery on Hayling Island (between Chichester and Portsmouth). To arrange to visit Newkey please call 02392 462835.

Please note that any cat cannot be reserved until both a home visit and a viewing have been completed. This is due to many people letting us and the cats down.

To arrange a home visit or to find out more about the rehoming process, please contact the Sussex North Branch directly on 01403 267204.

Why I'm special

I’m the longest stay cat of the cattery and I cannot understand why nobody wants to meet me and take me home. My care takers here in the cattery think it is because I’m getting overexcited when getting cuddled and like to nip on people to show them how much I enjoy the attention.

I have previously been told of for this behaviour but it is part of me and I really do not mean any harm.

I have the loudest purr and love getting attention. I am a really lovely cat and I’m getting quite sad that nobody wants to offer me a forever home.

Can I come and live with you please?

My personality

  • I'd prefer to be the only cat in a home
  • I'll probably spend more time inside
  • I could live with children of secondary school age
  • I love company and would like you to be around a good part of the day
  • I would prefer not to live with a dog
