MISSY

Missy was rescued by RSPCA inspectors and is now looking for a very special home. She is such a lovely girl, however Missy is very nervous of new people and situations. Once she gets to know you she is very friendly and extremely playful! Missy is looking for an experienced home and an owner who has the time to devote to her training and management needs. Could you be her perfect match?

Why I'm special

This is an appeal for Missy, a four year old Staffy-X, and one of our longest-term residents. She is a puppy in all but age, she is a star in every which way. Can you offer her, her perfect forever home?

Missy is a tear-inducingly affectionate and lovely girl and a genuine joy to be with and around – such is her character and spirit – but it’s her playfulness that really makes you smile. There is nothing that she cannot turn into a game or a toy, her room is full of toys that she has found and accumulated, like some particularly eager collector of treasures – if tennis balls and squeakies were ever considered particularly valuable treasures. She adores playing with you, bringing you things and sharing her joy with all of her friends and family.

She’s also a fantastically beautiful girl. Her endearingly slight under bite, her chipped upper canine – both of which give her an adorably wonky smile – that tongue which seems to go on forever, those bright, jewelled eyes, all contribute to a girl of unique and heart-wrenching beauty. Missy is like no other, in the best way possible.

But hers is a life that hasn’t always been a charmed one. She came into our care after having been rescued from a property by RSPCA Inspectors. Missy had been abandoned. Utterly and totally. Knowing how loving and affectionate and personable she is, it’s hard to imagine that she felt that this event was anything less than the end of her world. She would’ve been heart-broken and shattered by it. But since being brought into our care she has recovered, found new friends, better friends, and more love that she has ever known. But it’s still not enough – she deserves better than we can offer.

But being abandoned brings with it anxieties - or at least the type of owner who would ever abandon their pet does – and Missy can be quite worried by other dogs, she seems instinctively distrustful of them and reacts accordingly. She can also be shy around strangers – though it doesn’t take much more than gentle, calming introductions (and treats!) for her to come round. And when she does, she adores them. Missy doesn’t do things by halves, she doesn’t just ‘like’ someone, she has to love them unreservedly. That’s Missy. Her background might’ve brought with it some trust issues but she is trying her best to overcome them.

Missy would be best placed in an adult-only home and one where she is, certainly, the only pet. She will need a compassionate and understanding owner, who is happy to spend time with her to make her feel happy and settled. Given where she has come from, trust will take a little time. Her owner should also be happy to help her overcome these anxieties. Otherwise, Missy is a remarkable girl. Toilet-trained, walks fantastically on lead, knows some basic commands. She just needs a home in which to show her fullest potential. Can you offer this to her?

If you are interested in Missy please give us a call on 01246 273358 (phone lines open between 10am and 4.30pm, Tuesday through Sunday). If you know anyone who might be able to help, please tell them to get in touch, Missy would appreciate it wholeheartedly – and you would never regret it.
