Special Appeal

‘A disabled dog is a joy - they appreciate everything life has to offer and never say - why me?’*

Maria needs our help! We’re looking for a very special foster or forever home for her.

She was hit by a car and left for dead on the roadside, paralysed, just able to drag herself to the kerb. Fortunately for Maria, a guardian angel came to her rescue, found her a temporary haven and is doing all she can to get Maria back to the best health and secure her a happy future. Maria is fully sponsored by a private individual, who is a great supporter of our branch (all Marie’s veterinary costs will be met by the private individual and not RSPCA branch funds). We are reaching out to our supporters to find some help for Maria and will provide ongoing practical support to her foster or forever home.

Maria is a medium sized young adult female, who has been recovering in a temporary foster home with other dogs. She has the sweetest, most polite nature. Adapting to losing the use of her back legs is a challenge, but if we can find her the right foster home, she can then be fitted with ‘doggy wheels’ so she will still be able to have proper, enjoyable exercise. Any recommended physiotherapy will be provided too.

Fostering a disabled dog is not the easiest thing to do, we know, but my goodness the rewards outweigh the challenges. Certainly they can teach us a lot. Maybe they do have to do things a little slower, find ways to adapt, rely on their guardian more, but they still enjoy life. They will still make every effort to do what they can, the best they can. They still deserve to have a healthy, happy life, being loved and cared for, as much as any other dog. They will still offer unconditional love to you.

Maria is waiting. We are reaching out to you to see if you can help us, to help her. If you can't help, can you share for us?

If you have the time, patience and experience to offer Maria the foster or forever home she is searching for, please do get in touch with us for more information. Call 07749 175023 and leave a clear message with your name and contact details and tell us a little about yourself/your experience or email

Help feed animals in our care

Dog eating out of a dog bowl © RSPCA

It costs on average £8.52 to feed a single animal in our care for just one week!

We rehome thousands of animals every year. Whilst some are lucky enough to find a new home in just a few weeks, many more stay with us for months until we're able to find them their perfect family.

Will you help us cover the costs of feeding dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and more with a donation today?

*The funds collected will be used wherever the need is greatest.
