HARRIS

Harris is a very special little girl and we are looking for a very special new home for her.

Harris is a Patterdale cross, we think she is mainly Patterdale, with a bit of Collie, and her intelligence and behaviour certainly suggest that.
She loves being with people and can get anxious if her favourite humans aren't around but she usually settles after a few minutes. Her foster carers have been able to leave her for up to an hour at a time.  They are sure that once she is settled in a happy, secure home she will be able to be left for increasing periods of time.

Harris is happiest when out and about, she enjoys walks, particularly in new places where there are lots of things to sniff.  She has a touch of arthritis in one of her back legs but this doesn't slow her down at all and she happily walks three times a day and will walk for up to an hour.

As well as walks she loves playing fetch with a tennis ball and must be re-homed somewhere with an enclosed garden where she can play.Harris was diagnosed with epilepsy after moving to her foster home but this is now being sucessfully managed with daily tablets and she hasn't had any further episodes since starting her medication.  She happily takes her tablets, with little peanut butter please, twice a day.

Harris is incredibly good natured, although she can be wary and quiet with strange humans she is happy to meet new people and especially loves children.

She is calm, affectionate and fantastic company.  She is very intelligent and needs to be in a home where she can be involved in family life, particularly if she can have an important job like checking the garden last thing at night or watching the washing being hung on the line.  She loves travelling in the car, curling up to sleep through most journeys.

Harris will chase cats or other creatures, including deer, if they run away as this triggers her prey drive but cats who ignore her or stare at her become invisible and are left well alone.Harris is completely house trained, she does know the command 'sit' but is selective about obeying it.  She has reasonably good recall but is currently not walked off the lead outside the garden, her foster carers are confident that in the right home she can be trained and will learn to follow commands, especially if doggy chocolates are available.

Unfortunately Harris has been allowed to develop an aggressive reaction to other dogs, she has been assessed by a behaviourist and her foster carers have trained her to wear a muzzle whenever she is out.  Since being in her foster home she has learned to stay calmer when she sees other dogs and her forever family must be prepared to continue with this training and reinforcement.  Any prospective adopter will need to understand her current behaviour and commit to continued training to help her.

Harris is a little star, a pocket rocket who adores people, likes to be busy, loves cuddles and will be the most loyal member of the family you could wish for.Paris is an adorable dog who loves to run and play with anyone who will let her!

Why I'm special

Harris is just a lovely little pocket rocket who needs someone very special to take care of her. She is loving, fun and cheeky and really loves the company of the two legs. Are you the right person to take care of this very special lady? If so, please give us a call.
