This Handsome Chap is Figaro.
He is definitely a unique soul in need of that special someone.
Figaro came to us after being found with a prolapsed rectum that needed urgent veterinary treatment, we also discovered he had tested positive for FIV so will need to stay as an indoor cat. It quickly became clear that he had not had many [positive] interactions with humans. He was hiding, terrified and would flinch and hiss anytime he had to be handled. Figaro developed a case of stress-induced cystitis from being in such a busy environment that was too stressful for his character. As soon as his bottom had healed, we moved him into a nice, quiet foster home in Walthamstow . He has made great progress with his foster carer but he does still takes time to warm up to new people / situations and this may cause his cystitis to flare up. Because this is stress related, it does mean it is something that may re-occur while he settles into somewhere new or at points throughout his life where he may get upset.
Figaro has slowly settled into his foster home and has made really good progress from the cat that first arrived in our care. He is still a nervous boy and doesn't like sudden movements or changes but he loves to peer around chairs, doors or tables to "spy" on what his fosterer is doing! He loves to play with stringy / dangly toys (especially if they have a feather on the end) and valerien cushions - he does play a lot at night time!.
He is happy to be stroked while he is eating and he now likes affection at other times; but it does have to be his decision or you might get a batt !! But when he has chosen to, he will happily sit beside his foster carer on the sofa, lean into her side and let her give him head rubs, chin scratches and has realised he actually enjoys this! He tends to panic if hands come towards his face so has learnt to show he wants this attention by facing away from his foster carer to signal "it's fuss time please". He loves her fluffy dressing gown and has started to get onto her lap on occasions. Figaro has also recently started to get onto the bed once he knows everyone is settled for the night - we think this shows his potential and that he does enjoy human company, he just hasn't been used to it before now. We do not know what sort of life Figaro had before arriving with us but it seems as if it was a hard one =(
Figaro will need to stay on a urinary, wet food only diet throughout his life.... He likes one make, and it has to be in gravy =D
He has a daily supplement to help prevent bad flare ups of cystitis - This is called Cystease / Cystophan and he may need to be on this long-term. When he does get a case of cystitis it does need to be treated with a course of anti-inflammatory liquid (Metecam) from the vets. Encouraging him to drink plenty as well as having a wet food diet will help his bladder health.
We know Figaro may take a while to find his quiet, special home with an individual or pair who have the patience and understanding to help him be the cat we know he can be! His people have to be happy to meet his health needs and, because his issues are pre-existing, would need to be able to finacially cover the costs that relate to his bladder issues.
We believe Figaro's Purr-fect home is out there with people that can see past his shyness, to the true potential and great character hiding just below the surface =)
If you think you could be the person he needs in his life, please send in an application form to the email address on this page.
Figaro is eagerly waiting to hear from you =)
Why I'm special
I am paitiently waiting for my forever people to come along and take me home so I can begin to trust them and relax. I come with a few issues that i'm told can cost money, along with being a black cat and nervous.... I think I will be waiting longer than other cats do for my home, but every day I will keep wishing for the right person to come along. Someone who loves to play with feather toys is a must as these are my absolute favourite thing in the Whole World and can deystroy them quickly with my super hunting skills!! And they must understand that I will eventually want to have affection from them, but only when I say so! My Foster mum is so lovely, very kind and has helped me so much to learn to trust and play.... But I would really like a place that I can stay forever with people who won't mind if I take a while to settle in and will be happy to get me some medicine when I need it. I may be waiting longer than other cats but they tell me it's because I need an extra special home and when it comes along, it will be worth the wait!! Could you be the paw-fect person for me? xx
- I'd prefer to be the only cat in a home
- I need to be kept indoors
- I'd prefer an adult only household
- I'm a shy guy; I'll need time to settle
- I would prefer not to live with a dog
