Diefer came into RSPCA care after his owner sadly passed away and he had no one to care for him. On arrival, he was very anxious but being a busy and intelligent chap he just didn't know where to focus his energy and at times, especially when feeling out of his depth he could get very manic, OTT and grabby - he needed some help to relax but also an outlet for his active mind and body.
Whilst being here his carers have spent time with him daily, introducing him to new ways to have fun, use his brain and enjoy his time. He goes for lovely walks, has learnt some new skills, he enjoys scentwork games and he loves to play with toys. His manners were a bit hit and miss but now he happily gives you his toy in return for something just as cool, if not better.
Diefer is an affectionate boy once he knows and feels comfortable with you, he's a typical terrier though - into everything and always looking for something exciting to do. He's very choosy with his friends and can get rather rude and OTT in some cases, he is looking for a home as the only dog as he'd rather not share, he's used to being the only pet in his owners life.
We have trained Diefer to wear a muzzle whilst out walking for a little bit of extra support. He's very comfortable in it and as it wearing it has been very positively associated with tasty dog sweeties, he's more than happy to sport it out and about on his daily adventures.
Diefer is ideally suited to an experienced, adult dog owning home, he'd be a fab companion for someone used to cheeky Terriers who live an active lifestyle and have lots of time to spend helping Diefer to develop his education even further.
Could you offer this lovely, older boy a wonderful new home?
Why I'm special
Hi Diefer here! I've been at Sheffield RSPCA for just over six months now and I'm still looking for love. I'm embarrassed to admit that when I first arrived, I may not have been on my best behaviour but I'd just lost my companion human and best friend, I was upset, confused and had never really been away from my quiet, stable home. Luckily, the carers here are very patient and told me everything would be okay, they showed me how to use my energy and spirit in other ways, teaching me new skills and helping me to focus on fun things like scentwork.
I'm much happier now but I still really miss my old owner and would love to be a companion pet once more, someone with lots of time and experience who could take a mature yet cheeky Terrier chap like me, under their wing and help me to enjoy and live my life to the full again. Is that you? Do you know who that might be? If you see anyone looking for a new best friend, looking for a second chance, please will you tell them about me. Thank you lots! Diefer x
