About Me

Breed: Rottweiler
Colour: Black and Tan
Age: 1 Year (approx)

Please note we are not able to respond to people who do not meet the following criteria:

* 2 person household around most of the time
* No cats
* No children under 16 years
* Experience with juvenile large breed dogs
* Thorough understanding of up to date, scientific dog training methods.

Bear is a large young Rottweiler who was brought into the centre after his owner passed away. Bear came to Mount Noddy with some great life skills and has clearly been loved in his previous home. He is a friendly lad who loves to be around people and dogs, although can lack manners at times and clearly does not know his own size.  He is house trained but may need some reminders in the new home. Bear is a joy to train and quick to learn, new owners should be aware that they will need to continue his training post adoption to ensure he reaches his potential, and he will need on-going management as he matures into an adult. Bear thrives on routine and so we are looking for a calm and quiet home who can provide him with a structure to his day to help him gain confidence and settle in the house, as he does have a history of being destructive in the house.

Bear is food motivated so this can be used as a tool in his training. He has learnt many tricks since being at the centre such as target training, sit, wait, down, paw and many more. Bear is also crate trained and sleeps in one over night, we have found this to be very beneficial for him and should be continued by his adopters.  Bear can be strong on the lead and he is easily distracted in new environments, however once bonded with you he engages with his handler well. The animal care team takes him off site regularly to work on his focus around new people and dogs, it is clear he loves meeting dogs out and about, therefore new owners will need to work to continue to develop his nice social skills. He enjoys days out to the beach, town and woods and his adopters need to have the energy to keep up with him!

He is best suited to live in a 2 person adult  household who have the time to commit to his needs. Bear could potentially live with a calm dog if the right match and they get on well following multiple meetings at the centre. Owners will be willing to work with our animal behaviour and welfare advisor and follow a management plan to ensure a smooth transition from kennels to home. Ideally owners should have experience of rearing and training larger, energetic dogs. Bear will make a wonderful companion to training enthusiasts with experience of large breeds who have realistic expectations about adopting a juvenile Rottweiler.

My personality

  • I need teaching that it's ok to be alone
  • I get on well with many other dogs
  • I'd prefer not to live with a cat
  • I'm always on the go
  • I love toys and games
