Spaniel fostered by family who adopted her brother 14 years earlier

An elderly spaniel who ended up back at the animal shelter that rescued and rehomed her as a puppy 14 years earlier has now gone home with a new family - who originally adopted her brother all those years ago! 

Springer spaniel Tandie, 14, arrived at the Venton Centre, run by our Cornwall branch, over the summer after the sad death of one of her owners.

She was first taken in by the centre in 2007 alongside her mum - a stray with a broken jaw - and her nine littermates. They were all successfully rehomed and Tandie went off to a wonderful home while her brother, Eric, was adopted by Anna Cirant-Carr and her family, from Newquay.

After losing Eric in 2018, Anna took on another dog. But she was browsing Facebook when she saw Cornwall branch's post about Tandie and knew she had to help! The elderly spaniel was looking for a foster home to live out her days and Anna couldn't resist her late dog's lookalike.

Anna said: "We were heartbroken when Eric died in 2018 and struggled to cope without a dog around the house so we got Labrador cross springer spaniel Freida three months later. But when we saw Tandie's story online we knew we had to give her a retirement home to live out her days. 

"She's doing amazingly well - you'd never know she was 14! She eats loads, jumps all over the sofas and follows us around the house."

Anna added:

Tandie has limited vision and is completely deaf. She also suffers from arthritis and a skin condition so our staff felt finding her a foster home - where they could continue to support and monitor her - would be best.

A spokesperson from the branch said: "It's like it was fate that Eric's owners saw Tandie's appeal online and got in touch.

"We're so pleased that we've found Tandie such a wonderful home to live out her days and we're incredibly grateful to Anna and her family for opening their home to her so she can have the retirement she deserves."
