Identifying butterflies and moths

Unfortunately, the RSPCA is not in a position to help with the identification of butterflies and moths, due to the wide range of species and individual colour variations.

The Butterfly Conservation website has a facility that helps you to identify butterflies and moths using their location, size and wing colouration. The site provides clear photos and species information for some 67 butterflies and 110 day-flying moths. Alternatively, your local library may be able to assist in finding butterfly and moth identification books for you to read.
