Rehoming Tia

Tia, a crossbreed dog that was left at an RSPCA centre with her sister, is now living life to the full in her new home.

Katy and Adam Smith went to the RSPCA's Bryn y Maen Animal Centre in Colwyn Bay, not really knowing what to expect. "Having never been to an animal centre before, I was pleasantly surprised to see it was so clean and well presented, and run by fantastic staff," Katy said.

She recalls: "Tia caught my eye because she didn't bark or jump about, she just looked so lonely. She had been brought in six weeks earlier with her sister, but the other dog was rehomed almost immediately leaving Tia alone. She was about ten-months-old and nervous."

It took the couple just half-an-hour to decide they wanted Tia and to arrange a home visit. "We had to wait a week, but we visited her three times and every time we left, I cried," said Katy.

"The day we collected Tia I was up at 7am, making sure her bed was ready and that she had all the toys, food and treats she needed. We even bought a doggy paddling pool to keep her cool!

"We got to the centre just as it opened. I went down to her kennel and to my horror she wasn't there, but I needn't have worried because the staff were saying goodbye to her in the staff quarters! She came bounding towards us almost as if she knew that she was coming home. Once she had her final examination and had been microchipped, she was officially ours. Her previous owners said she was carsick and not house-trained, but I can honestly say she loves the car and she has never had an accident in the house."

Katy says Tia is the most lovable, loyal and obedient dog they have ever known. She loves her walks in the park, but her all-time favourite place - apart from being at home with her owners - is the beach. Katy says: "When we first took her to the beach she didn't want to stand on the sand, but now we can't get her off!

"Tia really is our little girl. We have given her a home where she is adored, but she has given us so much pleasure. Rehoming certainly works both ways."
