Companion animals - Racing greyhounds

The RSPCA works in a number of ways to help greyhounds. Find out more.

The Society, along with many other animal welfare organisations, is pleased to see greyhound welfare covered in the scope of the proposed Animal Welfare Bill and is currently actively contributing to the work of the DEFRA sponsored Industry/Welfare body coalition charged with producing a written Code of Practice for the racing greyhound.

The RSPCA was involved in drawing up the Charter for the Racing Greyhound and accompanying industry Code of Practice through membership of the Industry/Welfare body known as the UK Greyhound Forum. The Society is also an active member of the sister International Forum that addresses greyhound welfare issues and meets regularly in the Republic of Ireland. Many of the greyhounds racing in the UK are bred in the Republic.
