Every year at least 10,000 greyhounds are retired from racing. The fate of many of these greyhounds is unknown and huge numbers simply 'disappear'.
We believe that the health and happiness of thousands of racing greyhounds is very poor. Welfare issues can occur at any life stage, so all aspects of the greyhound industry, from breeding to kennelling, racing, transportation, management and final retirement need to be improved. We want to see effective legislation to protect greyhounds from cradle to grave.
The government is now consulting the public on the welfare of racing greyhounds in England. This is our chance to let them know that the public is unhappy about the uncertainty around racing greyhounds and that thousands of people support legislation that will protect each and every racing greyhound for the whole of their lives.
We need your help
The consultation period ends on 22 July 2009 and we've set ourselves a target to get at least 20,000 people to send a letter to the government by this date to push them to introduce special legislation for racing greyhounds under the Animal Welfare Act. After that, the consultation period closes for good.
Please take action today!
We really need your help to demonstrate the rising tide of public unease about this important welfare issue.
