Team of Inspectors set off for Kilimanjaro!
22.02.2013
After 10 months of training and raising over £66,000 so far, the day has finally arrived as our team of 15 RSPCA officers set off on the 22nd February for Tanzania, to climb the highest free standing mountain in the world.
The team, (consisting of Inspectors, an Animal Welfare Officer and an Animal Collection Officer) are using one of the most difficult and less well-trodden routes, the Machame route, to ascend the 19,341ft high mountain trekking up to a daunting 12 hours each day.
They will face challenging terrain ranging from dense rainforest to rock and scree and have to contend with temperatures as low as -20c. ‘Summit day’ (day 7) is set to be one of the toughest. The team will set off at 11pm to climb for 8hours in the dark, hoping to reach the top by sunrise where they will take in the view from 5,895 meters!
On their return, and after a few well earned days rest, the team will be back fundraising again as they strive towards hitting their ambitious £80,000 target. The 15 volunteers, who have come together from all over the country, including South and North Wales, the Wirral, North London, Yorkshire, Norfolk, Leicestershire, Cheshire, Surrey, Devon and Worcestershire among others, have received a huge amount of support, especially in their local regions.
If you would like to support them on this epic challenge, the inspectors all have their own JustGiving pages and the group has a dedicated page – please visit their JustGiving page or you can help by texting INSP47 plus the amount (e.g. £10) to 70070.
