Two raccoon dogs found in Mid Wales
19.10.12
During a routine call to Brecon in Mid Wales on Thursday, 4 October, RSPCA Inspector Danielle Baber was called to inspect an animal that seemed to defy description.
A member of the public described the animal that had strayed into her barn, in Boughrood near Brecon, as having the face of a raccoon with long teeth and a short tail.
Danielle identified the animal as a raccoon dog, a species of animal native to East Asia that neither she or her colleagues had ever seen before.
And then there were two
Another animal with the same description had also been seen locally. And the partner of the raccoon dog was found in the same stable on Friday, 5 October.

The raccoon dogs are now in RSPCA care at West Hatch Wildlife Centre. Find out how they are getting on in our blog post: Raccoon dogs roaming free in Wales!
RSPCA Inspector Danielle Baber said:
"An RSPCA officer's life is never dull, but occasionally we come across highly unusual creatures.
This handsome raccoon dog and his partner must have strayed from their owner in the Boughrood area and we'd like to hear from them immediately."
