Feeling lucky? Adopt a black cat from us!
19.08.12
In the UK, black cats traditionally symbolise good luck, yet sadly the cats themselves are not always so lucky.
Black cats are often overlooked by potential adopters in favour of their more colourful feline friends and spend much longer in our care.
Over half of our RSPCA Sussex North Branch's feline residents are black. So the branch is appealing to anyone thinking of adopting a cat to consider one of the many lucky black cats in their care.
Branch volunteer photographer Gary Chapman says:
It’s sad to come into the cattery every week and see the same cats being overlooked again and again.
I hope we can raise awareness of the difficulty of rehoming black cats and make potential adopters see what wonderful pets these beautiful, good natured cats can make.
Meet some of the cats
Chris and his brother Conan came into the branch’s care several months ago. Chris loves treats and would do anything for a delicious titbit. He is also very playful and energetic. Conan is the gentle soul out of the two and loves cuddles and strokes.
Although very fond of each other the brothers could also be rehomed separately. And due to them growing up with other cats, they could be rehomed with an existing feline companion.
Usain, Shelly and Ann are three six-month-old siblings who are an absolute bundle of fun. They are cute kittens who are very friendly and playful.
Usain is the more confident of the three and will come up to greet visitors at the cattery. Shelly and Ann are a bit more reserved but usually curiosity gets the better of them and they can’t wait to get out of their pen to explore the cattery.
They love to play with each other so ideally would be rehomed with another cat.
If you are interested in rehoming one of these cats, please contact Pat on 01403 267204 (every day 8am-8pm), who will be very happy to discuss the cats available for adoption at the RSPCA Sussex North Branch.
